Welcome to the website for the 2012 Maine "Lobster Roll," a 100-mile scooter ride starting in Portland, Maine, and ending in Rockland, for the closing weekend of the Maine Lobster Festival. Our ride starts on Saturday, the morning of August 4th, at 10:00 A.M., in the Back Trail Cove parking lot in Portland. We'll make the trip up the coast (mostly) following Route 1, a fun, medium-speed ride that passes through some of Midcoast Maine's most scenic roads and small villages. The ride ends during the last weekend of the Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland, Maine. The Maine Lobster Festival is a celebration of the best tastes of Maine, in gorgeous downtown Rockland. What: A 100-Mile Summer Scooter Ride
When: 10:00 A.M. August 4th, 2012
Where: Ride begins in the Back Trail Cove parking lot, Portland, Maine, and ends in Rockland, Maine

Riders of all experience levels are invited to attend. Though we will not be using any highways, the ride is moderately fast in some segments, which makes this ride most appropriate for 125cc scooter riders and over. Riders of smaller-engine scooters are welcome to attend, and may organize themselves into smaller groups who will tackle the ride at their own pace.

This year, we will be taking a slightly longer route, in order to avoid the traffic that is legendary in Wiscasset. We'll divert north, adding 20 miles to the trip, but also adding some amazing river and lakeside roads that wind through Maine's scenic small towns and villages. Feel free to review the route map here. We are also hosting a BBQ at the end of the ride. All participants are welcome to attend, and/or head down to the festivities in Rockland Harbor, site of the Maine Lobster Festival. Secure parking for scooters will be provided.

Where to Stay:

While it's possible to make the ride back in the same day, why not stay for the Lobster Festival? During the Lobster Festival, hotel rooms in Maine are at a premium, and we cannot guarantee the availability of guest accomodations. Our best advice is to book early for best rates and availability. In Portland, we suggest either the Holiday Inn or the Hilton Garden Inn. In Rockland, options are even fewer. Your best bet is the Samoset, the Hampton Inn, or the Trade Winds.

Official Meeting Point:

We're meeting at 10:00 Saturday morning, in the parking lot at Back Trail Cove, at Preble Street Extension and Baxter Blvd. Here's a map, to help you visualize:
